What Kind of Hosting Account is Most Suitable For You?

Thursday, March 18, 2010 posted by admin 12:54 am
The internet has become, by far, the most efficient and cost effective way to literally reach millions of potential customers from all over the world. In order to have your own website to advertise your business you will need what is called a hosting company. There are 2 basic types of hosting companies, free hosts and paid hosts. But which type is most suitable for you?

Free hosting companies are a great option for every new webmaster. Personally I started with a paid host, then quit because I didn’t understand what to do. Then I went to a free host and was able to take my time and learn at my own pace without the frustration of having to pay for something I didn’t understand. Most free hosting companies will automatically put advertising on your website, but if you look hard enough, you can find those that do not. Also, there is no guarantee of 100% up time. From experience I can say that I had nearly as much down time with my paid hosting account as I did with my free account. Support services on free hosting accounts do exist, but are limited and not available 24/7.

Paid hosting companies are good for webmasters of all levels of experience. Here too you will find different types of services; shared hosting and dedicated hosting. Dedicated hosting is more for big businesses with a huge customer base and a larger expense fund. While shared hosting is more suitable for individuals and smaller companies. Shared hosting is also much less expensive and can be found as low as $1 per month in some cases. With either dedicated or shared hosting you will have much more control over your website. Site support is generally available 24/7 via live chat, support tickets, email, and even telephone in many cases.

Low cost, shared hosting is the best choice for most people. But do not be afraid to try a free hosting company or two first just to get a handle on how things look and work on the other side. I suggest getting set up on a free hosting account until you are comfortable and confident enough to put your money where your mouth is.

Make a Lot of Money Online With Reseller Web Hosting

Thursday, March 5, 2009 posted by admin 9:09 pm

Do you know that you can make a lot of money online with reseller web hosting? As a reseller, you don’t really own and run servers. Your primary job is to sell web hosting. You can charge whatever you want, and profit from handsome margins. Here is a step by step guide to help you get started.

Step 1: Choose a reliable hosting company.
Step 2: Sign up for reseller hosting.
Step 3: Setup your own website.
Step 4: Start selling web hosting.
Step 5: Sit back and count money!

Step 1: Choose a reliable hosting company.

This step is very important so pay close attention. As a reseller, the web hosting company is transparent to the customer. The customer deals through you, and if anything goes wrong, you must provide support. If you choose an unstable host, your customers will encounter lots of problems and blame you for them. So make sure you choose a reliable hosting company right from the very start. If the company is stable enough, it doesn’t take a lot to run a successful reseller business.

Step 2: Sign up for reseller hosting.

Once you have decided on the Company, sign up for a reseller account. A reseller account usually cost more than an ordinary hosting account. You will get more resources allocated to your account though. For example, you get more disk space and bandwidth that you can sell. A reseller account also gives you tools to manage the hosting that you manage to sell. You can bill customers, shut down accounts, etc.

Step 3: Setup your own website.

Once you have your own hosting account, the first thing you need to do is to setup your own website. You can setup a website easily by using free software such as Wordpress. If you do not have the technical know-how, you can always hire a freelance web designer to setup a professional looking site for you. Make sure you offer different ways for customers to contact you. Professional hosting companies always offer email support as well as instant chat support.

Step 4: Start selling web hosting.

With a website, you can start selling web hosting. If you have an existing customer base, you can easily make a killing by offering hosting. That way, you can provide additional value-added services and make your customers happier. For instance, you may be offering Internet marketing services and you know that your clients are looking for web hosting services as well. So you offer them cheap hosting, and offer to take care of their hosting needs for them as well. Remember, you only pay a monthly fee for the reseller hosting. You can charge your customers whatever you like and make the difference.

Step 5: Sit back and count money!

That’s it. It’s really that simple. Once you have customers, you can make money on a monthly basis. Every time a customer renews the account, you make money. There is no reason for them not to renew if you service your accounts properly.

The first thing you want to look at is a hosting provider that allows you unlimited domains. What that means is that you can have as many domains as you want with the provider so you can have as many websites as you want on the internet – without costing you an extra cent.

A lot of services have this option of unlimited domains. It is always a good idea to choose this because looking long term you may want to create more than just one website but many, and choosing the unlimited domain option will allow you to do this for no extra cost.

Next you want something that has a site builder. If you are not familiar with HTML – and codes etc required to create your own website – a site builder is what will allow you to instantly put a website together. This can take you a matter of minutes and you have a fully functional website. It is completely automatic – very straight forward where you can upload photos, images, text. This is great for the newbie who is creating their first site and will get you on the net in minutes.

Other things to look for are where your hosting provider should supply you with instant backup, for safety of your files, You should also be able to have access to guaranteed uptime. You want to know that your site is guaranteed to be up and running and available online for people to use all of the time. Most providers allow for a small percentage of time that this may not be possible (due to unforeseen technical issues) – but you want a provider who will give you a guaranteed up time of at least 99.9 %.

There is also the situation where your hosting provider may place you on a contract. Personally I dislike being placed on a contract because it does not offer any flexibility if you want to cancel for what ever reason – so it’s always best to try choose a provider that offers you no contract – because you don’t want to be stuck somewhere you are not happy, or paying for something you are no longer wishing to use.

This leads me to money back guarantees – always check the provider offers this – most do and generally are between 30 and 45 days.

There are so many hosting providers out there, and they all offer so many different things – but these things I have mentioned are the things you really want to be looking out for. Now it is very easy for me to write this article and tell you all about what a hosting provider should supply you with – however you must go out and do the research for yourself. Do as much research as you possibly can in determining which is the best web hosting provider for you.

It is so important that you choose wisely because you do not want to realize in a couple months time that you made a mistake and then join another provider only to have to transfer all your files over to a new provider. Ask questions if you need to before you join up with any plan being offered by a hosting provider.
