Tips for for PCAT Success

PCAT is a standardized test for admission in pharmacy colleges. This test measures the academic and scientific knowledge essential for starting the learning in pharmaceutical world. PCAT registration can be done very easily. The American Association of colleges of Pharmacy has regarded it as official examination for admission to pharmacy colleges.

It includes 240 multiple-choice questions and two topics for writing. Total duration of four hours are given to candidate for completion of test and apart from it, little time at beginning of test for instructions and a short rest time in the mid-way of test is also given.

The contents of the exam are:

  1. Verbal Ability:  This section tests the verbal ability of candidate like vocabulary, usage, analogies etc.
  2. Biology: This category of test is purely scientific knowledge based and includes questions from microbiology, general biology, physiology and anatomy.
  3. Chemistry:  This section assesses the candidate for the knowledge in the domain of organic and inorganic chemistry field.
  4. Reading Comprehension: It includes the passages related to the science. The distribution of evaluation in reading passages is done as 30% on comprehension, 40% on analytical skills and rest 30% on ability to evaluate the passages.
  5. Quantitative: This section deals with the quantitative and reasoning ability of a candidate in the fields like Basics of mathematics, calculus, probability, statistics etc.
  6. Writing: In this section, the problem solving techniques and usage of English is judged.

Hence, it is an important examination and knowledge of areas to be tested upon help in focused study.
